90% of published articles in 2023 now open access available

90% of all journal articles published by UU and UMCU researchers in 2023, is now openly available. This is a significant increase from 2022, when 83% was freely available. Of some faculties, almost all journal articles are freely available. The increase is partly due to the â€˜open access regulation’ that took effect on 1 January 2024.

The open access scheme allows researchers and the UU library to make short scientific work open access available, six months after publication. Examples include articles, journals, conference proceedings and chapters from edited volumes. For researchers at UMC Utrecht, this scheme is unfortunately not yet available.

Publish open access yourself

The library cannot make all short scientific works freely available. For that, we need a digital version of the publication. Is your work not yet open access? Then help us by clicking on ‘add content’ on your profile page and choosing Research Output: Quick Submit. There you can upload a PDF of your article. The library will then make sure it becomes open access available.

Actual figures

Up-to-date figures per faculty and department are available in . Log in with your Solis-id. The actual figures may differ from the figures in this news item. This is because the figures above are recorded at the fixed benchmark in March, while the figures in the monitor are regularly updated. Data on books, book chapters and conference publications will also be added in 2024.
