56 trolleys with practical material to Suriname
On Tuesday 12 November, we sent 56 lesson trolleys with practical material to Suriname. With this material, many schools can now start demonstrating physics experiments in the lower classes of HAVO / VWO! In addition to the practical materials, the shipment also contained around 1,000 books focused on exam preparation in the new curriculum.
The mission is part of the BLiNaS project, in which teachers in Suriname are offered more activating work forms for the lower classes of MULO (more extensive primary education) physics education. This is done through conferences, the MULO experiments book and examples of the use of demonstrations. A blended form of continuing education is used for this, through assignments, multimedia and conferences.
Originally there were ten test schools that would demonstrate, through the use of a trolley with practical material, how to use more activating teaching methods. But thanks to sponsorship from the NNV, NVON and the PLON Foundation, 45 extra trolleys with practical material were shipped to Suriname! A large part of the 86 mulo schools (lower secondary school / pre-university education) can now get started with demonstrating physics experiments. The project runs until the end of 2020. In February and July, just as in 2019, training sessions will be held in Suriname during which the teachers learn how to use the practical material and various work forms.
The 1000 books for VWO and HAVO, targeting exam preparation in the new curriculum, were able to be sent thanks to the PLON Foundation and the cooperation of ThiemeMeulenhoff publishers. Thanks to our earlier project (NiNaS), the new curriculum is now being implemented in Surinamese schools.
