33 nominations by students for university Teacher Awards
To stimulate lecturers to continuously improve their teaching and reward their education, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 has granted the annual Teaching Awards since 1994. Lecturers that are starting out can be nominated for the Teacher Talent Award, and senior lecturers for the Outstanding Teacher Award. The Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT) received no less than 33 nominations from students.
This year, lecturers could be nominated until 17 November 2023 by the study associations of their programme. 18 lecturers were nominated for the Outstanding Teacher Award and 15 lecturers were nominated for the Teacher Talent Award. The nominations are compiled by the students of the study association. They write a reasoned recommendation about the lecturer they nominate. In addition, the nominated lecturer writes a teaching vision and provides a CV. Finally, two colleagues are asked to write a letter of recommendation. This year, the CAT also received nominations from student associations that have not previously nominated a lecturer.
Last year, Peter Pelzer won the Outstanding Teacher Award and Serena Di Palma the Teacher Talent Award out of a total of 36 nominated lecturers.
The nominations will be read by the jury in the coming weeks. Mid-January, they will nominate several lecturers for both prizes and then choose one winner per category. The jury is chaired by dr. Gery Nijenhuis. Besides the chairman, the jury consists of lecturers from all faculties and the two students who wrote the winning nomination last year.
The nominations will be announced at the end of January. On 7 March 2024 at the OnderwijsFestival the winners will be presented and the prizes will be awarded. During the Dies Natalis on 26 March 2024, the winners will be put in the spotlight. Are you also curious to know who will receive this year's awards? Come to the OnderwijsFestival or keep a close eye on intranet that day.
