16th NACV-day in Utrecht: call for papers

2020 – a special number. Six colleagues from Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ have been working together to make the next NACV meeting a special one. On January 17 2020 we are pleased to welcome you to ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ College Utrecht.

Over the past years, NACV meetings have focused on a wide variety of developments in the field, from globalization and internationalization to diversity and technological innovations. In 2020 we would like to look ahead as well as look back: what have we learnt so far about the teaching of academic communicative skills? What are best practices in helping our students improve at presenting, writing, listening and reading? What, in retrospect, turned out to be bad ideas? What are effective and not-so-effective ways of collaborating with content teachers in the curriculum? What works when it comes to persuading policy makers to support our initiatives, and what doesn’t?

In other words: we present a broad conference theme, and are keen to concentrate on sharing knowledge and experiences. Reflecting on failures, mistakes and bloopers can be highly valuable, which is why we hope you’ll be willing to share those experiences too. We warmly invite you to submit a proposal for a contribution to this NACV day. Contributions on oral skills are particularly welcome!

Contributions

You can choose from three ‘traditional’ formats as well as a number of new ones:

  • presentation (30 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions and discussion): share information about your research, project and method
  • workshop (40 minutes): give your colleagues hands-on insight into something you have developed
  • discussion (intro 5 minutes, followed by 35 minutes discussion): ask your colleagues to think through a particular question or problem
  •  project input (20 or 40 minutes): pitch your project in 5 minutes max. and use your colleagues’ input to develop it further
  • expert session (15 minutes): offer your expertise in a particular field and be prepared to answer questions from colleagues
  • lessons learned (15 minutes): present the success or failure of your project in max. 5 slides with little text and discuss it with colleagues (3 contributions will be combined into 1 session; you can also choose to propose a session together with two colleagues)

Your proposal should not exceed the limit of 300 words, and should contain the title, the type of contribution, the aim of your contribution and an indication of the target audience. If you submit a proposal for a workshop, please also indicate how you will make it interactive. If you submit a proposal for a discussion, please indicate how you will organize the discussion (for instance with a panel). Remember to include the name, affiliation and contact details of the author(s). Depending on the language of the abstract, we will assume an English or Dutch contribution

The deadline for submitting your abstract is 1 October 2019. You can submit by sending using .
