How to resize a scan if the file is too large

If you made a scan of for example your diploma, it may be too large to send by e-mail. If you have Microsoft software on your computer, you can use Microsoft Paint to make it smaller in size. You can find Paint on your computer under: Start > Standard Applications or Programs > Accessories > Paint.

First Method

  1. Open the image file you wish to edit.
  2. > Image (in the menu at the top) > Stretch/Skew Image.
  3. > Under ‘Stretch’, enter the percentage with which you want to resize the image; enter the same percentage for the horizontal and vertical stretch
  4. Click OK.
  5. Once you have the desired size, click File, then Save As... to prevent overwriting the original image.

Second Method

  1. Enable Num Lock by pressing the Num Lock button on your keyboard.
  2. Select the entire image.
  3. Hold down Ctrl and press the - or + button on your number pad to resize the image. The number pad is a square arrangement of numbers and symbols on your keyboard, that can only be enabled with the Num Lock.
