Workshop systematically searching literature (including systematic reviews)

to

In these corona times we would like to give you the opportunity to follow our workshops from home.

During this workshop you’ll learn how to set up a search strategy. You will get some theoretical background on where and how to search and you apply this to your own research question. Before participating in the workshop, you will have to complete an online training module, which will take approximately two hours.

The systematic approach works for all disciplines and for both short comprehensive topics and full systematic reviews. We will also offer you a short introduction to tools which help you manage the results of your search.

Set-up of the workshop

The workshop consists of three parts:

  1. An online module "Systematic searching for literature";
  2. An assignment in which you apply the basic skills to your own research question and can ask for help;
  3. Demonstrations and discussions to help you on your way.

Topics

  • How to start? – from question to search strategy
  • Where to search? – what databases to use and how to use them
  • When to stop? – will this search find it all, or not…

In addition we will introduce some tools that help you manage your results:

  • Reference management – collecting, organising and using references to sources
  • Systematic reviews – e.g. tools for deduplication, screening

Requirements

The workshop is primarily aimed at researchers and students from Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and UMC Utrecht.
