Workshop: Mobility and the energy transition
The `Transforming cities’ hub has launched a call for seed funding to stimulate new internal and external collaborations on urban sustainability transformations. The Transforming cities hub organizes several workshops on specific topics for researchers at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ to stimulate collaborations on new research ideas and applications for seed funding. On Tuesday 9 February the hub organizes organizes a seed funding workshop on Mobility and energy transition. The aim of the workshop is to set a research agenda and formulate one or more ideas that lead to a seed funding proposal.
At this workshop we will explore how the mobility system and the energy system are interrelated, and what this implies for a transition toward a more sustainable mobility system and for the more general energy transition that is needed. Aspects that will be addressed include how daily mobility can take place in a more energy efficient way (e.g. by using different travel modes), to what extent electric vehicles will provide a sustainable form of transportation, how electric vehicles and the electricity grid best interact to support renewable energy production and under what conditions citizens are willing to adopt sustainable travel practices.
We explicitly aim to combine technical knowledge (about energy systems and energy efficiency of vehicles), knowledge of behavioral processes (e.g. changing travel modes, EV charging behavior, EV adoption) and governance processes to develop research ideas and discuss funding options. To this end, we would like to bring together colleagues from various disciplines working on mobility, energy transition, innovation, planning, renewable energy sources, consumer behavior etc.
The research hub Transforming cities is part of the Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ strategic theme Pathways to Sustainability. By connecting knowledge and collaborating with stakeholders in transdisciplinary settings, the Transforming cities hub aims to explore and provide sustainable solutions for cities.
