 will host its next high-level event on 16 October 2020 (World Food Day), in partnership with the  of the United Nations, and the .  The title of the event is 鈥淔OOD 2030 - Transforming food systems through Research & Innovation鈥. It will be an online event, that will take place between 12:15h and 14:30h (Central European Summer Time or Brussels time).  It will bring together researchers, innovators, policy makers, actors, stakeholders and civil society for a participatory discussion on the transition to sustainable food systems and, in particular, on the key role of research and innovation therein.

This event is part of a series of events that have been hosted each year by FOOD 2030 since its creation in 2016. This year鈥檚 programme will reflect the updated EU policy context on food system reform, including the recently adopted EU Farm-to-Fork Strategy,  and look forward to the 2021 UN World Food Systems Summit. The programme will include high level speakers from the European Commission, FAO, and the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education, a keynote by Prof Dr Joachim VON BRAUN (Chair of the Scientific Group for the UN World Food System Summit), a high-level panel debate on R&I鈥檚 contribution to innovating food systems and their governance, and testimonials of the next generation of researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Like last year, the event is part of the World Food Day celebrations. This year, World Food Day (WFD) marks FAO鈥檚 75th anniversary with the theme 鈥淕row, nourish, sustain. Together. Our actions are our future.鈥 We will be looking into the future we need to build together and aiming to build back better. The World Food Day celebrations call for global cooperation and solidarity to make sure that the threats COVID-19 is posing to food security and agricultural livelihoods are confronted, and the most vulnerable are able to get back on their feet. It is also an occasion to sensitize the public on how everybody has a role to play in transforming our food systems by changing the way we produce, transform, consume and waste our food.
