Joyce: 鈥淚 will give a presentation about the concerned shareholder from a historical perspective. In this I will also involve the changing view of the legal person and the role of the entrepreneur in society. I start with the period of the early modern period in which the guild system is still alive, followed by the period of the industrial revolution and the twentieth century. 鈥
Joyce Devilee is a PhD candidate in corporate law at the Utrecht Center for Accountability and Liability Law (UCALL) of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. Joyce's doctoral research focuses on shareholder involvement. To investigate what this shareholder engagement means, we look at what shareholder engagement has been in the past and how this engagement has changed over the past century. For this, company history sources are studied. The second part of the thesis examines which factors motivate a group to become involved and which factors actually weaken this engaged attitude.
The law sees shareholders as a group that takes joint decisions, but to what extent can the general meeting of shareholders of the large open company really be regarded as a group? To find out, sources from social psychology are studied. With the help of these insights, it can be analyzed to what extent the current framework of legislation and regulations stimulates shareholder involvement and suggestions for improvement can be made.
