Symposium – Reclaiming the Digital Classroom: Advancing Public Value in EdTech through Co-Design and Democratic Evaluation
How can European schools safeguard public values by engaging in the co-design and democratic evaluation of educational technologies (EdTech)? What role can design, implementation, and assessment frameworks — rooted in ethical, pedagogical, and ecological values — play in this effort? And how can we accelerate the adoption of such value-driven approaches across education systems?
Program
On Thursday, 11 December 2025, Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, Kennisnet, and the Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich will bring together European researchers, educators, and policymakers to explore these questions. The day begins with a keynote by Prof. Dr. Cathy Adams (ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Alberta, Canada). This will be followed by three workshop rounds of 45 minutes each, featuring parallel sessions where researchers from across Europe present innovative projects and practices related to the symposium theme.
The day concludes with a panel discussion and a networking reception. The symposium thus provides a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, foster collaboration, and lay the groundwork for a strong international network committed to advancing public values in EdTech.
