The growing interest in the materiality of media is accompanied by increasing awareness of the physical infrastructures to distribute audiovisual content. Consisting of a variety of systems, services, and devices, these infrastructures consume significant amounts of raw materials and energy, highlighting the need for an environmental perspective. Focusing on streaming television content, this presentation maps the infrastructures of television distribution and examines their environmental impact, while at the same time challenging the traditional boundaries of media studies.

Judith Keilbach is Associate Professor in the Media and Culture Studies Department at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. She is co-leader of the special interest group , a member of the and co-leader of the  workgroup of the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (necs). Her research interests include media industries and infrastructures, with a particular focus on sustainability.
