We are pleased to announce our second CUCo symposium that will take place on the 9^th of February 2021. During this symposium Young Academy members and their invited colleagues can pitch their ideas and join the discussions in breakout rooms to facilitate collaboration.

The goal of the Centre for Unusual Collaborations is to find solutions for societal challenges at the intersections of the humanities and social sciences, life sciences, exact and technical sciences, and agricultural and food science.

We fund start up collaborations by means of Spark grants, which, if successful, become eligible to submit an Unusual Collaborations grant.

To be able to be eligible for a Spark grant, your project idea should first be pitched at one of our symposia (organised several times per year). For pitching, we already expect you to have an interdisciplinary team formed around a topic fitting the Alliance with members of the different institutes, but to still be open to include others.

Of note: we do not want people to (just) pitch their own research and try and find collaborators, we will organize separate matchmaking events for that purpose. The topic and combinations of researchers should be unusual from the start.

Important to know:

• Unfortunately, we can only accept a limited number of pitches per symposium. Pitches will be selected based on a first-come, first-served basis, and will also be curated based on the topic/team of the pitch.
• Please let only one person of your team indicate that they are pitching (the rest of the team can just register), to avoid confusion on how many pitch requests we have.
• Once accepted to pitch at the symposium, we ask all pitchers to prepare a short (max. 1,5 minute) video on their project idea. The threshold for these videos is as low as it gets: webcam recordings are just fine. We encourage you to use all your creativity for this movie.
