Responsible Conduct of Research: Supervision, Mentoring and Collaboration (Online)
Click to go to the website of Integrity.
In daily life situations researchers often run into questions that involve colleagues: people whom you collaborate with, supervisors, (master) students who you (may) have to supervise. For example, if a supervisor asks me to work extra hours and provide data for their paper, what do I do? How much time and supervision can I ask from fellow colleagues when I know that they are also very busy with their own projects? What do I do when people who I work with tend to cut corners? Should I agree to a colleague being co-author of a paper to which (s)he has made no significant contribution? How to work well with colleagues when at times a lot is at stake and time is scarce? What is my role, and how can I constructively involve others?
Becoming an independent researcher includes being able to showcase responsible conduct of research. In this course you will not only be introduced to the topic of responsible conduct of research: we will focus on issues of collaboration and stimulate you to take initiative to address issues you encounter in your own project.
We will show in this course how basic concepts of responsible conduct of research (RCR) and research integrity are related to issues in supervision, mentoring and collaboration. Moreover, this course focuses on your own experiences with the topic and helps you develop practical strategies to deal with some of the RCR and research integrity issues that you may encounter in your project.
In this online course, we will introduce you to core ideas on responsible conduct of research: you will learn about the basic values that underly responsible research and how they apply to decisions and actions in your own research.
At the end of the course, participants:
- Will be more aware of what kind of integrity issues and dilemmas can occur in research practices; and have broad(er) knowledge of relevant RCR values, rules and principles.
- Will be better able to deal with these issues in their own practice from a Responsible Conduct of Research perspective, consistent with the stage of their PhD project.
- Will be stimulated to communicate about these issues with relevant persons.
Participants will be enrolled in an online course via the virtual learning environment of Elevate Health. The course offers both individual and collaborative assignments on research integrity to an interdisciplinary group of PhDs. It features many examples and dilemmas faced in issues of supervision, mentoring, and collaboration. We will enroll students from various European Universities, namely Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, Zurich 木瓜福利影视 and Vilnius 木瓜福利影视. You can be a starting PhD candidate as well as an advanced PhD candidate.
