Popcorn & Possibilities: A Movie Afternoon at Playground

Discover how storytelling reveals the entrepreneurial mindset—spotting opportunities, embracing risk, and thinking creatively—in our Popcorn & Possibilities: A Movie Afternoon at Playground.

Ever wondered how a milkshake machine salesman ended up running ? Or how a fictional chocolatier inspired ?

At first glance, these sound like business stories. But look closer and you'll realise they’re really about mindset. The kind that helps people spot opportunities where others see obstacles, stay curious and creative, and take bold steps even when the path isn’t clear.

So we thought: why not use storytelling as a fun way to explore entrepreneurship?

Introducing: Movie Afternoon at Playground.

Not a lecture. Not a workshop. Just a relaxed space to watch a film through a different lens. We’ll be screening either  or â€” and you get to choose which one on June 2nd via our poll! (The results are in: We’re watching Wonka (2023)!)

Together, we’ll explore how characters navigate risk, embrace change, and take on the unpredictable journey of building something from a dream. It’s also a moment to reflect on how that same mindset shows up in real life — whether it’s tackling a university project, launching a side hustle, or just thinking outside the box to navigate everyday challenges.

Additionally, five PlayGrant recipients (Playground’s startup funding program for students) will share their ideas, giving you the opportunity to hear what other students are up to, chat with them about their journey, and learn what it takes to chase your dreams.

We'll have lunch, drinks, and a quick (but fun!) game inspired by the movie at the end!

Grab your seat—the show’s about to start.

For Whom?

This event is open to all UU students! No prior knowledge or preparation is required. The event is free, but once you register, we do expect you to show up and actively participate. Please refer to our no-show policy below for more details.

Note: The event will be conducted in English.

By Whom?

This event is organised by Melina Victor, Communications & Marketing Manager at Playground. Melina wants to share how entrepreneurship is less about business buzzwords and more about mindset: creativity, initiative, and problem-solving. The kind of skills that matter no matter what you’re studying. This Movie Afternoon is a relaxed and open way to explore those ideas together. And if you’re curious about what Playground does — or how we can support your next step, whether it’s a bold idea or just a rough sketch of one — this is a great place to begin!

Our No-Show Policy

We're excited to offer this event for free, but free doesn’t mean free of responsibility. Our events thrive on participant interaction, and we love providing snacks and drinks to enhance your experience. Late cancellations and no-shows make it harder for us to continue offering these perks. We need your help to make this possible, and here's how we work:

  • Once you sign up for a workshop, we expect you to attend.
  • If you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible—at least 24 hours before the workshop.
  • Failing to show up without notice will result in a temporary 8-week suspension from all Playground activities.
  • Two consecutive no-shows will result in a suspension from all Playground activities for the remainder of the academic year.

We appreciate your cooperation in making our workshops a great experience for everyone and look forward to seeing you at Playground.
