Plant-based protein transition

Future Food Utrecht ONLINE Event

to

Proteins form the building blocks of life on earth. Currently, a large part of the global human population uses animal-based food products as the primary protein source. This heavy dependence on meat-based and dairy-based food consumption is one of the most significant contributors to biodiversity loss, modification of the water cycle, and climate change. Getting people to shift towards diets rich in plant-based proteins and with fewer animal proteins would also have a positive effect on the environment, our health and animal welfare.

While a dietary transition from primarily animal-based towards primarily plant-based protein products is urgently needed, it will be very tricky. Multiple aspects of food production and consumption are near interconnected: local, regional, and global food production systems, environmental impacts, consumer decisions, health impacts, markets, and so on. An interdisciplinary perspective is required to sketch how a transition from diets based primarily on animal proteins towards diets based mainly on plant protein products can be achieved.

In the coming years, Future Food Utrecht intends to focus, among other topics, on the Plant-based protein transition. To generate interactions between scientists and stakeholders on this topic, we will organize activities addressing various aspects related to the plant-based protein transition.

During this online event, we will welcome Jeroen Willemsen, from the , a key player in the plant-based protein transition in the Netherlands. He will inform us about what the GPA is up to and tell us more about the activities and projects they are involved in to accelerate the protein transition in the Netherlands.  Those Vegan Cowboys, are on a mission, to change the current dairy industry by developing milk-proteins through fermentation. If you want to hear more about their views on the current bottlenecks in the transition to plant-based diets and the knowledge and innovations needed to accelerate this transition, join us next October 2nd from 10.00 -11.30 AM.

After registration and two days before the event, you will receive the link to the Livestream.
