On Monday 23 June, (Columbia ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ) will deliver the public lecture ‘Pan-Africanism & Decolonization. W.E.B. Du Bois in the World’. Spivak is a leading voice in literary theory, postcolonial studies, and feminist thought. This public lecture is a unique opportunity to listen to one of the most influential scholars of our time.

About Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak

Spivak is a globally recognised scholar and activist, particularly known for her essay ‘Can the Subaltern Speak?’ (1988), a significant contribution to the field of postcolonial studies. She is also a founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society, and she supports educational and development initiatives across the Global South.

This year, Spivak received the 2025 Holberg Prize in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the field of humanities. She has taught at more than twenty universities, and has published nine books that were translated in over twenty languages. Currently, she is working on a book on sociologist and civil rights activist William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, titled Globalizing Enslavement: My Brother Burghardt.
