Frans Oort has had a distinguished career with interests in algebraic geometry, arithmetic algebraic geometry, moduli of abelian varieties in positive characteristic. He has worked at Leiden ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, Harvard ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, Aarhus ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Amsterdam, Columbia ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. He is currently Professor Emeritus at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. 

He is perhaps best known for the André–Oort conjecture, a problem in Diophantine geometry.

His research history, including many open source publications, lectures, and videos are available on his own and the

Johan Commelin (Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ), Remy van Dobben de Bruyn (Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ), and Ben Moonen (Radboud ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ) are pleased to be able to honour Frans and his work through this symposium.

On Friday 7 November, the afternoon session, including speakers and the reception requires no registration. They are aimed at a general mathematical audience and everyone is welcome. Tentatively the following speakers are scheduled for this session:
