FEST: "(563318) ten Kate and the Utrecht meteorite collection"
Friday Earth Sciences Talk
Speaker and topic: Inge Loes ten Kate, "(563318) ten Kate and the Utrecht meteorite collection"
Last October, an asteroid was named after our colleague and speaker of the day, Inge Loes ten Kate. The department of Earth Sciences hosts a 157-sample meteorite collection, but what makes meteorites so fascinating? And is there a link with the asteroid (563318) ten Kate? This FEST will be all about asteroids and meteorites, their role in unraveling the solar system history, what we can learn from meteorites about the Earth, their hypothesized role in the origin of life, and how you will be able to access the collection in the near future.
With the Friday Earth Sciences Talks (FEST) we intend to bring the departments of Earth Sciences and Physical Geography together. The aim is to present (mostly) Utrecht-based Earth Sciences in an accessible way in order i) to stay familiar with each other鈥檚 work across disciplines and ii) to help (in particular MSc.) students in their orientation on possible graduation specialisations and future careers. Alumni are also invited.
