Conference: “Free Movement Under Pressure: Revisiting Constitutional Principles of Free Movement”
The Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe and the Research Platform in Migration Law are delighted to invite you to the conference on “Free movement under pressure: revisiting Constitutional Principles of Free Movement”.
Freedom of movement in the EU is one of the cornerstones of the EU internal market, and of European integration more broadly speaking. Despite its fundamental nature, free movement is facing challenges originating from changing political priorities and immigration policies at the national level. This event is focused on examining the pressures free movement currently faces in light of today’s political and societal climate. The event seeks to discuss the current functioning and future development of constitutional principles essential to free movement such as mutual recognition and mutual trust as well as non-discrimination and equal treatment. Reflections of the day serve to ultimately examine what the main challenges are to EU free movement law and what can be done to uphold its constitutional principles.
