We would like to invite all members of the Utrecht Young Academy to the first UYA Campus Novel Reading Group meeting. Campus novels are set in and around universities. Many are dark comedies. By offering a satirical perspective on academic life, they help us cope. Apart from this obvious beneficial effect, we hope that discussing campus novels will stimulate us to put into words what the ideal university should and should not look like.  

For the first meeting, we will read Vladimir Nabokov's novel Pnin. This is a short novel, published in 1957, in which we follow Timofey Pnin, a Russian-born assistant professor teaching at a college on the East Coast of the US.

We will meet on Thursday October 22 at 15.30, online in MS Teams, in the reading group channel of the UYA Social Team.

You do not need to prepare anything for the meeting, except perhaps read the book. You can bring a +1 if you want; please spread the joy of campus novels and UYA. Please send an email to uya@uu.nl if you would like to join on October 22.
