Book Launch: Food, Migration and Belonging: A Glossary for Doing Fieldwork in Contemporary Europe
Fair Transitions presents
Book Launch
Join us on Wednesday September 3rd for the launch of Food, Migration and Belonging: A Glossary for Doing Fieldwork in Contemporary Europe, a unique collaboration between scholars, activists, policymakers, artists, migrants, and chefs.
About the Event
The book maps the concepts that capture changing food practices in the context of migration, exploring how relationships with food, community, and the land are constantly reshaped in our era of unprecedented mobility. It is the outcome of FOOD2GATHER, a three-year research project funded by Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA), which brought together fieldwork and creative interventions across six European countries. Through poetry, graphic art, stories, and essays, the glossary invites readers to see foodscapes as sites of encounter, transformation, and belonging.
At the launch, co-editors Rick Dolphijn and Nicholas Polson, and Project Initiator Virginie Amilien, will share readings from the book alongside small tastes inspired by its themes, with background film drawn from the project. The event will close with a conversation between the three speakers, reflecting on the process, discoveries, and the possibilities the book opens.
