The European Union was created with the aim of bringing peace and prosperity to us all. Today, however, the EU faces major challenges: right-wing populism is growing and the continent is plagued more than ever by terrorist attacks. Cooperation to combat growing inequality and the climate crisis is desperately needed, but seems to be too great a challenge for the politicians in Brussels. It is time to take a critical look at European integration: how did we get here and what is the right way forward?

Leading historians Beatrice de Graaf and Johan Schot take you on a fascinating journey through the history of Europe from 1800 to the present day. In conversation with them, we will look for (historical) tools for a strong, sustainable Europe.
