On 15 March,  organizes a round table discussion on the role of algorithms and AI in European screenwriting as part of the chain of events.

Algorithms and AI

Algorithms and data analytics are making deeper inroads into screen production in Europe. As film and TV viewers migrate to the web, real-time data from streaming content provide an increasingly granular picture of taste and viewing patterns. Screen workers leverage these data to drive creative decisions – whether it’s with insights from an internal analytics department, AI tools, or a streaming service.

Nina Vindum Rasmussen (King’s College) will talk about the experiences of screenwriters (as well as directors and producers) with AI and data analytics in the European screen media industries. She will zoom in on the (perceived) impact of data analytics on creative work, particularly in the development phase of media content, and the ways in which creative practitioners negotiate possible opportunities, challenges and limitations of data-driven processes. Karin van Es is the discussant and Judith Keilbach functions as chair.

Let's Talk Screenwriting!

This event is organized by the  (MI3) research initiative of the Media and Culture Studies department. It is part of the 'Let’s Talk Screenwriting!' online discussion series that focuses on 'Algorithms, Writers’ Rooms and Gender Stereotypes'. The series bring media scholars and screenwriters together to discuss the current role of algorithms and data analytics in European screen production, why writers’ rooms are revolutionizing screenwriting processes in Europe and what screenwriters can do to avoid gender stereotypes.

All students from BA- and (R)MA-programmes, scholars in media, communication, and arts, screenwriters and other media professionals are cordially invited to all sessions.
