Introduction to R for Life Sciences
Important
For this course, you need to bring your own laptop with R and RStudio installed.
Target Audience
This course is for anyone who wants to learn the basics of R and RStudio.
Course description
R is a widely used software environment for statistical computing. It provides a variety of libraries for data manipulation, modelling, and visualisation. The language has become immensely popular in life sciences in order to keep up with the ever-increasing data richness of modern experiments.
In the R environment, a plethora of software packages are available. These packages tailor to both small-scale experiments where all data is collected manually, as well as high-throughput molecular and systems biology experiments. This introductory course covers the fundamentals of the R language and basic data exploration in R. These basics are universal and essential for any analysis in the R language. This course does not teach you the ins and outs of any specific analysis for one particular experiment. It provides a basic understanding of R, enabling you to explore and utilise these R packages independently.
The introduction to the R course is the start of the GS-LS R mini-curriculum. Fluency in the R basics grants you access to Bring Your Own Data courses such as ggplot2 and differential expression analysis.
As a beginner in programming with R, everything was exciting. It is amazing how your learning curve is taking you to a higher point day by day.
