La Haine and its relevance 25 years later
The impact of La Haine was and is still large: for the first time outsiders could see and feel what it was really like to live in a marginal area. The film is now 25 years old but continues to be relevant.
Forum Groningen invites dr. Luuk Slooter, Assistant Professor in Conflict Studies, to give an introduction to the movie and talk about its relevance 25 years later. Dr. Slooter conducted extensive research on the ‘banlieue crisis’ and lived in a Parisian suburb for seven months. He recently published his book ‘The Making of the Banlieue: An Ethnography of Space, Identity and Violence.’ After the film he will answer questions from the audience.
The lecture and Q&A will be in English.
