An image tells more than a thousands words
How do you perceive a place through a single image? Your opinion is important to us. We are using user generated open source street view imagery and your input, to develop and test a model of human perception. For this reason, we would like to invite you to participate in this research project titled ‘An image tells more than a thousand words: Mapping place perception through street view data, and artificial intelligence’.
This research is a collaboration between the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Physical Geography, and Human Geography and Spatial Planning department at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. Together we have developed a web app to collect human perceptions of street scenes. In this perception rating app, you will first be asked to share some basic demographic information. Then you will be presented with a series of images and asked for your subjective opinion by rating each image based on 5 different criteria of the image (e.g. 'safety’) as you perceive it. A simple glance and quick judgement is fine for each one: it is meant to be easy and fast to rate each image. We estimate that rating a set of images takes up to 15-20 minutes. The imagery currently comes from the Amsterdam area.
Your contribution will remain anonymous in our database and in any future published analysis. We comply with GDPR and ethics approval rules and you may discontinue participation at any time.
This application will work on your mobile phone or desktop web browser. However, if you face any challenges, find something that does not work, wish to be notified of the results of this research or want to have your participation removed, please let us know via email at gdpr.percept.geo@uu.nl.
Now, you are welcome to start rating! Please see the web app at:
