Webinar: Beyond the Sensationalism, the tacit side of Lesbos

RENFORCE webinar Lesbos 28 okt 2020

The Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE) invites you to this webinar on the situation on Lesbos, chaired by Dr. Hanneke van Eijken, Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ.

Early in September, news broke on the devastating fires that swept through Moria Reception and Identification Centre, Greece's largest and severely overcrowded migrant camp on the island of Lesbos. The incident has been referred to as ‘a time-bomb that finally exploded’, leaving thousands without shelter, proper sanitation or access to food and water, calling solidarity and responsibility-sharing in Europe into question once more.

With the aim of highlighting the issues that go unmentioned in the media and public debates alike, RENFORCE is pleased to organise a much-needed seminar bringing together different viewpoints from international scholars and practitioners working in the field of migration to foster critical discussions on the current problems in Lesbos and appropriate responses. The webinar will feature five presentations offering unique perspectives on the issues in Lesbos and a round table discussion between prominent migration professionals.
